PRE-PRODUCTION OVERVIEW
CASTING, CHARACTERS, REHEARSAL/DIRECTING
Protagonist
The protagonist who is not given a name is supposed to be a young person
who is the driver in a heist film, we built him to be a criminal, but whom
can be personally identified with (Uses and Gratifications: Personal
Identification, Information, Escapism, Social Interaction). He is built as
a character who is happy and stereotypically young in some ways, whilst
being shown as a good person, who regrets what he does, and does not want
to keep their deaf brother in danger. We based him off baby from Baby
driver.
Brother Of Protagonist
The brother of the protagonist is a blind teenager who also likes music,
he is based off Joseph from baby driver. He is used as a tool to help the
audience understand that the protagonist may be a criminal, but they are
kind hearted and are not a bad person, and that helps them understand his
reasons and problems throughout the film.
Criminal Boss Figure
The Criminal Boss is the one of the villains of the film (who would later
be shown as a secondary villain who was abusing the fact that his own
leader was behind b), He is a man who wears a suit, and demands respect
without deserving it, he is based off the the same character in Baby
Driver. He is shown to be manipulating the protagonist to do crimes he
does not want to do, and seems to have a hidden factor that forces the
protagonist to do it.
LOCATIONS, MISE-EN-SCENE, HEALTH AND SAFETY
What locations did you consider? Why these? Is there any link to your
research findings? What factors were involved in your final choices?
We ensured that the mise-en-scene would build to what we wanted. In the
kitchen scene we re-positioned many of the things in the room, and
brought others such as the tomatoes and the bread. The clothing was
another aspect of the mise-en-scene where we focused on, but we manly
focused on the protagonist, and we forgot to plan the clothing of the
brother. In the church scene which we recorded after the kitchen one, we
ensured that the boss character was meticulously controlled, we had him
wearing exactly what we believed would be. we also had the church scene
as controlled as possible without disrupting the environment since the
church was a church that was actively in use.
We tried to ensure that all cast rarely faced each other, and the only
times that two or more people were closer then two meters to each other,
they were siblings who lived in the same household. We never broke any
Covid-19 regulations. We also ensured that no.one other then the
practiced cinematographer used the camera and we ensure that nobody got
injured or hurt by anything.
EQUIPMENT + LOGISTICS
We used the Lumix Panasonic DC-GH5L and a zoom H4n.
We contacted the church to see if we would be allowed to film there and
were granted access.
STORYBOARD
This is a story board that was for an idea that we later changed, but
it helped us massively understand and explain our idea.
SCREENPLAY
ANIMATIC
This is an animatic for the 2.5th idea that was planned.
